He was suggesting as had some painters and many musicians...that all styles were legitimate...jazz, classical, country and surreal, abstract, realistic, impressionistic. An expression may be good art or bad art...It doesn't have to do with the kind or style of art it is.You see or hear good art and you recognize it.

Linda Hickshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10622069411237073813noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1210759514036256082.post-92017954378010396722014-10-31T09:40:19.109-07:002014-10-31T09:40:19.109-07:00OK, thanks Elizabeth!OK, thanks Elizabeth!Kristinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09432604051698105927noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1210759514036256082.post-21328817376949118342014-10-30T11:12:54.803-07:002014-10-30T11:12:54.803-07:00Thank you Linda - I actually read it in a book abo...Thank you Linda - I actually read it in a book about music and wondered why I couldn't find the quote in my art books!!! (I've changed it to Ellington).

Kristin: I think what Matisse meant was don't be too literal in making a painting - or an art quilt (if he'd thought of it!) from a particular landscape. The important thing is that the art be GOOD and not necessarily totally a true representation of the subject. You see this in model photos where the models spots and acne has been air brushed out!Elizabeth Bartonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13928615247903165719noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1210759514036256082.post-55042873624715670292014-10-30T07:35:48.631-07:002014-10-30T07:35:48.631-07:00Interesting post, Elizabeth.
