This may be making a statement but is it art?

I do agree that if you have something to say then there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't use the quilt medium to say it - out loud! If it matters to you it will speak louder.

HilaryHilaryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07937719185098075609noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1210759514036256082.post-47067743393474875022012-01-17T15:15:28.713-08:002012-01-17T15:15:28.713-08:00I think Shawn Quinlan's work is very strong an...I think Shawn Quinlan's work is very strong and we do need more of that type of work addressing current issues important to society if we quiltmakers are going to be taken seriously as contemporary artists rather than decorative artists. I do think there is a place for both and that quilts as a medium can easily stretch to cover both arenas.Elizabeth Bartonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13928615247903165719noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1210759514036256082.post-49503046177210247722012-01-17T13:45:06.173-08:002012-01-17T13:45:06.173-08:00I've been saying for many years that the art q...I've been saying for many years that the art quilt world is too nice, and unwilling to confront dark issues. For several years I've been giving an award at "Form, Not Function: Quilt Art at the Carnegie" for political and social commentary. This year it went to Shawn Quinlan (again!).Kathleen Loomishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05930922068379938756noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1210759514036256082.post-36899836412659496222011-12-31T19:13:47.249-08:002011-12-31T19:13:47.249-08:00Create what you love and desire...then let go and ...Create what you love and desire...then let go and allow the processes take their journey. However, there is another market of people who buy art for their home, people who are looking for something of beauty, of interest, or simply of colour, to hang on the wall and give them pleasure. I don't think I will live to see the day that people want a tank of urine in the living room, or elephant dung hanging over the fireplace.Heather Dubreuilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13626475036351705686noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1210759514036256082.post-14993125871606291772011-12-30T04:52:26.820-08:002011-12-30T04:52:26.820-08:00weight loss

The more content and context I put into my work, the more I enjoy it and the process as well. Even at the very beginning when I was working quite traditionally, I sought blocks whose names had meaning to the recipient of the (bed) quilt. Now I'm on the spot though to update my woefully old website to better reflect my newer (and more politically/emotionally charged) work.Kristin Lhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05955546754675680404noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1210759514036256082.post-26720392123120590302011-12-28T20:24:50.108-08:002011-12-28T20:24:50.108-08:00Thought provoking post!Thought provoking post!Karanmkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18210312448628606499noreply@blogger.com
